‘Khaleja’ Review: Watch It Just For Mahesh

Movie: Khaleja
Rating: 3/5

Banner: Sri Kanakaratna Movies
Cast: Mahesh Babu, Anushka, Prakashraj, Rao Ramesh, Shafi, Ali, Sunil, Brahmi, Subbaraju, Tanikella, Raghu Babu, M S Narayana, Dharmavarapu, Amit, Veda etc
Music: Mani Sharmaa
Cinematography: Yash Bhatt, Sunil Patel
Editing: Sreekar Prasad
Story, screenplay, direction, dialogues: Trivikram Srinivas
Producers: Singanamala Ramesh, C Kalyan
Release date: 07/10/2010

Mahesh Babu is back after a hiatus and the expectations have been high on this ‘Khaleja’. Given the title controversy, the mileage was sufficient.

Story
Sitarama Raju (Mahesh) is a taxi driver who comes to Rajasthan searching for a person’s family. He chances upon Gemini TV person (Sunil) and reveals his story of coming there.

This also includes his encounters with Subhashini (Anushka) whose presence brings in bad luck and loss. On the other hand, there is Siddhappa (Shafi) who is sent by his guru (Rao Ramesh) in search of a god sent man who can protect the village from a death threat and extinction.

One thing happens after the other and Sitarama Raju comes across Siddhappa who believes that Raju is the man. Meanwhile, Subhashini’s father (Tanikella) is planning to get her engaged to the son of GK (Prakashraj) who has got a motive behind it. How are all these people connected and what happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Performances
Mahesh Babu is a complete show stealer in the film. He is highly energetic and his dialogue delivery stands apart. Unlike his regular mild approach with one liners, he rolls out flurry of words and entertains. As for his looks, he is handsome as ever and has made his presence felt strongly.

Anushka looks gorgeous and special focus has been made on her legs when it comes to dialogues. Her screen chemistry with Mahesh was neat and not much of a skin show from her this time.

Prakashraj was brief and he did his bit as required. Perhaps the etching of his character should have been more powerful. That would have given strength to the villain image and good climax.

The comedy track of Ali, Sunil gave few laughs. Brahmi was funny at few places, Tanikella was elegant, Subbaraju made his presence felt, Rao Ramesh was excellent, Shafi was impressive, Dharmavarapu and M S were brief. The others did their bit as required.

Analysis:
“One who lives for his own self is considered to be dead. One who lives for others with unselfishness and love live forever” – Swami Vivekananda

This is the crux of the movie that knocks the doors of every heart.
  • How GK (Prakash Raj) leads his life with selfishness and how he breathes his last with pain and grief.
  • How the villager Sidhdhappa (Shafi) holds faith in God and dies a painless death with pride filled eyes.
  • How Raju (Mahesh) manifests God in himself with unselfishness and true love for others.
The above three aspects build the ulterior message in the film. There is a symbolic scene of man’s connection with God which holds conviction. When our hero asks for Rs 10 for himself, his wish will not be fulfilled. And when he asks the same Rs 10 with a wish to feed a hungry boy, the donor gives him Rs 100 and goes. Only unselfishness can see the bountiful God. Mahesh Babu says in a dialogue here, “I understood God. He is not hiding anywhere. He is there in every heart. He fulfils wishes only when asked for the well being of others. What the hell Rs 100 when asked for Rs 10…he will shower even lakhs and crores”. This message is packaged and delivered with all commercial elements.

The interesting part of the film is that hero never fights for his selfish possessiveness on heroine. He never fights to gain supremacy on villains. He fights only for the lives of others. Hence he becomes God.

But how Trivikram dealt his narration in bringing this story on to celluloid? How the aspects those really matter for the success of the movie are placed? The music is good but only ‘sada siva sanyasi…’ is truly hitting the senses of audiences. That number takes position-1 among all the songs.  ‘Makathika maya maschindra..’ is ok to some extent. The song on Lord Krishna sounds good. Others are mundane. Background score is average.

First half is dealt with humor and the actual story starts only after 1 and half hours. Mahesh Babu made the movie hilarious with his typical dialogue delivery never seen before. Second half has some real material. Humor element continues here as well. But emotion elements are forced but not convincing enough. Trivikram seems to have inspired by ‘Magadheera’ with Rao Ramesh’s part. Brahmanandam has got very small role. Sunil entertained very well. Anushka’s iron-body characterization is also interesting.

Coming to screenplay, that is a bit complicated. Audiences find it a bit difficult to get connected. The introduction shot of Mahesh Babu is weak. The dialogues are good but here and there missed the grip and not up to the expectation. But on a whole the Trivikram-factor worked for this.

To sign off, watch the movie at your leisure, get entertained and also try to take some message into your life that can bring in some change in you and society.

Bottom-Line: Watch it without expectations

Jr NTR Fans To Boycott ‘Brindavanam’

Jr NTR Fans are now angry on their star’s film ‘Brindavanam’. This sounds wild. But this is true as per the reports. A couple of days ago Dil Raju called for a Press Meet and said that he is postponing the release of ‘Brindavanam’ for 1 week due to technical reasons. Up to that is ok. But he extended saying, “Jr NTR fans are sending warnings to me stating that the consequences will be worst if I postpone the film release from Oct 8th. But I’m not here to bend for such warnings”.

This has ignited negative sparks among Jr NTR fans and hence they are planning to show their power by calling for a non cooperation movement.

It is known that fans are vital force for any big star’s film. They create hype; they do hungama and build up craze for the film. They gather the information about collections and frequently deliver that to media. But this time, as producer Dil Raju has shown his arrogance on fans, things may turn other way. And sources say that even Jr NTR is taking the side of fans as the film got postponed although he pressured Dil Raju not to, due to prestige issue (since Khaleja is releasing on Oct 7th). Now sources say that Jr NTR may not show interest in promoting the film but will get busy in the shooting of ‘Shakti’.

We have to what happens to Brindavanam. Let us wish Dil Raju comes out with flying colors with this project. Already he is in neck deep financial troubles. Let Brindavanam give him solace.

Mahesh’s Confidence @ ‘Khaleja’, A Blockbuster?

The confidence shown by Mahesh Babu is giving an impression that ‘Khalaje’ is going to be a block buster. Mahesh is coming back after a gap of 3 years. He is very keen on seeing the movie released on 7th October. He is shelling out money even of the producer is falling short. Already he gave some waiver in his payment to producer holding share in some centers. He also shelled out Rs 1.5 Cr as the producer found it difficult to pay the dues to make the film go for RR, DTS etc. Sources say that Mahesh Babu is very confident on the movie and believes that it is going to become a block buster. Let us wish that should happen.

‘Rakta Charitra’ Audio Function Insults Music Directors

Finally, the first step has been taken to what could be a rather controversial situation. The most talked about movie of the season ‘Rakta Charitra’ is gearing up for release and before that, the audio release happened in a grand style at the Prasad Labs amidst the presence of noted celebrities.

While all that has gone well, a major drawback was staring right at the face. Usually, the audio launch is considered the day of the music director. However, ‘Rakta Charitra’ failed in that aspect miserably. Not once did anyone take the effort to mention the names of the music makers.

Interestingly, there are four music directors for the film and even one name was not mentioned. Those who were around commented maybe the function was incomplete for not having spoken about them. Though all of them hail from Bollywood, the essence of any audio function is the music director but unfortunately that didn’t happen here.

‘Rakta Charitra’ Music Review: Songs Of Blood

Film: Rakta Charitra
Lyrics: Kaluva Sai
Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Music On: Madhura Entertainment
Release On: 26th Sep 2010

This can be stated as the unique album ever appeared on to the canvass of Telugu film industry.  It’s an album drenched in blood but that doesn’t mean it’s encouraging violence and bloodshed. While 4 songs wave the flag of bloodshed, a single song goes above all and chants the mantra of peace. And the most interesting part is that peace song was sung by Ram Gopal Varma. It’s the first time RGV emerges as play back singer. And he proved not less than any professional singer. Let us walk in to the songs built on axes, knives, machetes and bullets along with the sharp words of lyricist Kaluva Sai. Four music directors have worked for this album. And another aspect to be underlined there are about 3 title songs in the album. One song is on the lines of socialism. A song is based on vedic chants and some message in Telugu. Each one carries its own weight.

Gundello Ubikubiki:
‘Gundello Ubikubiki pongina lava prahamu raa….’ is the opening line that raises the hair. The song explains the violence in the order of Rayalaseema Factionism. It’s the song of mercenary. Cutting the throats of fellow humans is the religion that’s elucidated here. Each word is like a smack of axe. The song is indirectly conveying what is shown in Rakta Charitra. It’s the first number in the album and aptly placed.

Akkada Ikkada:
It’s haunting. It’s hunting. It’s hitting every segment of nerves. Music is so well organized and orchestration scores big score here. The song sounds to be chasing the listeners. And the listeners sometimes may get hypnotized to chase someone. It’s infectious song. So keep senses in control and listen. Don’t get carried away by the violent ignitions in lyrics.

Rakta Sikta Varnamaina:
This is another title song that speaks about the blood shed in the history of Rayalaseema. It says firmly that power craving is the main reason for drenching the soils of past with blood. It sounds like a horror song. But the song appears to be weekly orchestrated. Especially in opening lines it’s sounding to be with abrupt breaks and sudden cuts disturbing the feel. But still it’s a song worth listening for the lyrics. It portrays the fear of death in faction afflicted lives.

Dabbunnodaa:
This is the weak song in entire album. It is sure that listeners skip this song as it’s disturbing the flow and mood that’s bestowed by first three songs. It’s a song on wealthy people with some socialistic idea.

Champaraa:
This can be many listeners’ favorite for the tune and orchestration. This song is more dangerous than ‘akkada ikkada’. The song directly says to kill whoever comes against in the way. The renditions of singers are also haunting.

Kathulatho Saavaasam:
This is the bottom-line of entire album. It’s sung by Ram Gopal Varma. I feel it is needed to chant this song that erodes the blood stains like a cool cascade. Hence I’m keying here the complete lyric.

Kathulatho saavasam- Netthutitho samaaptam
Kakshala ee samaram- Kaatikiraa payanam
Ee mulla daarullo adugesinaa…migiledhi soonyam nijam ||kaththulatho||

Budhdam saranam gachchaami-dharmama saranam gachchaami-sangham saranam gachchaami

Viluvaina bathuku vela lenidaithe maranaanni poojincharaa
Pudutoone evadoo paga vaadu kaadu, poyinodu koodaa raa
Ee nadumuna nuvvu vidhi aata lona paavu ayithey odevuraa || kaththulatho||

Paga annadepudu yemichce nestham-nastaanne migilinchu raa
Kshana kaalamaina manassaanthi leni- bathukentha baruvavunu raa
Bathikenduke ee bathukundani chachchaakaa telisemi raa.. |kaththulatho||

Just listen to this song and you will understand what is intended to show in this movie. The movie has a message and that is through this song.

Bottom-Line:
Worth Listening

Pawan Says Strict ‘No’ To Lip Kiss

Power star Pawan Kalyan may not have scored with his latest release but then he has always enjoyed a strong following among the masses. Many in the industry say that Pawan is known for his strong self discipline and he seems to be implementing that on the screen as well.

It is known news that Pawan is doing the remake of the bollywood film ‘Love Aaj Kal’ in Telugu. The leading lady for that is the petite beauty Trisha. Now, the original had quite a bit of lip kisses but Pawan has reportedly said that there must be none of that in Telugu.

Sources say that though Trisha is ready, he said no. apparently, Pawan is said to be concerned over the PRP image and the overall state. It seems Pawan said this is not his age or situation to get into liplocks. But….if he does then it will become a huge sensation since it is the first time from Pawan.

Opinion: Is This The Result Of Paritala’s ‘Bodi Gundu’?!

I’m a regular reader of greatandhra.com. My day begins with it here in USA. I have been knowing every happening in my state only through this site, although living thousands of miles away.

Freshly I read the review on ‘Komaram Puli’ and got shocked to know that it has bitten mud. My friend who watched that movie said to me that Pawan Kalyan has lost his judgment after the tonsuring incident at Paritala Ravi and that’s the only reason he is coming out with duds since then. I just laughed to that. I thought that my friend said that since he didn’t like ‘Komaram Puli’. Despite this entire episode, I watched the movie ‘Komaram Puli’ along with few of my other friends. We all felt like sitting on thorns through out. I wondered how such a silly product came out from Pawan Kalyan who earlier gave great hits till Khushi. There is no logic in many scenes. How an action episode can be made between an international don and a police cop just with parking the car in ‘no parking’ area?! Where is the driver? I got pestered when Pawan acted in some cheap romantic scenes. I couldn’t understand his lengthy dialogues those are very verbose and bombarding.

After the movie, we all sat in a restaurant and cracked many jokes about the movie. Later I went home and lied down on my bed. Then the words of my friend about Pawan Kalyan’s tonsuring rang in my ear.

I hail from Nellore. I used to read ‘Jameen Raithu’ the popularly known magazine for every Nelloreite (denizen of Nellore). I read an interesting article after ‘Khushi’ in that. That is about Pawan Kalyan got tonsured by Paritala Ravi in a land issue. I was shocked. I thought Jameen Raithu office will be demolished by Pawan fans. I wondered Chiranjeevi also hardly keeps silent if this is true but retaliates on Paritala Ravi, although the latter is a big factionist. I discarded the news as gossip.

But Allu Aravind stated that he is going to file defamation sue on the magazine. The magazine also responded fittingly that they are ready to face any kind of defamation sue as they have full evidences in that regard. I don’t know what had happened to that case later.

But now, I feel that Pawan’s mind got affected after the frightening day he had with Paritala Ravi. That is the reason, he lost his judgment. He acted in many flops and also made the big successful director SJ Suryah also come out with a dud.

I came to know from geratandhra.com that the tonsuring scene is there in RGV’s ‘Rakta Charitra’. What that is going to trigger, has to be seen, although RGV says that there is nothing to do with any actor in that scene.

Kanna Rao’s Ashta Kashtalu With ‘Robo’??

“‘Robo’ film, interested distributors district wise or Andhra, Ceded, Nizam area wise must contact Sri Krishna Traders owner Thota Kanna Rao on 94402 24682, 80081 49726, 08813-229464 or visit him at Hotel Anand Regency, room -221, Rajahmundry”.

This is the advertisement which has flashed in the Sakshi newspaper. By the looks of it, many are saying that Kanna Rao is having a tough time trying to sell the film after having pumped in Rs 27 crores. Time is running out as the film is hitting the screens on October 1st and it appears that not many have come forward.

As it is, the market pundits are predicting that the recovery of this investment is very difficult. And if Kanna Rao doesn’t find his distributors, he will have no choice but to distribute it at his own risk. Well, the ad for sure has sent some alarm signals among the cine circuit indicating that the film might be a massive dud. Let us see what happens…

This is the incident that happened freshly by the British authorities. Lakshmi Rai, the sexiest and beautiful actress has to travel UK for the shooting of her Malayalam film ‘Christian Brothers’ along with Mohan Lal. As she approached for Visa, she was rejected. When asked for reason they have said that she is extremely beautiful and hence they doubt that she may settle down with some British guy there once given Visa.

And when asked the actress about it she said, “My producer didn’t provide me necessary documents to get Visa. When British authorities quoted some stunning reasons I said that I traveled many times abroad and never faced any trouble. I had gone to Russia and USA before, I told them. Shahid-Priyanka watch Dabangg together…

Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra were spotted together at a suburban multiplex in Mumbai, watching Salman Khan’s latest blockbuster, Dabangg, on Monday night. Recently, they were also seen together at the Tere Bin Laden screening Wonder why the two lovers are pretending to be ‘just friends’, when they are so dabangg about their public appearances together!!!
Shahid was also seen dropping Priyanka at the Mumbai international airport when she flew to Brazil to shoot her telly show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’, a few weeks back.
Are they dating each other or ‘just friends’??? What do you guys think???

Sonakshi, makes a hat-trick with Salman

Salman Khan has signed another film with the much talked-about debutante, Sonakshi Sinha.
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala drove down to the Sinhas’ bungalow to sign Sonakshi opposite Salman in the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster Kick which Shirish Kunder will be directing for Nadiadwala.
Buzz is that, Sallu recommended Sonakshi for the female lead which Ileana had performed in the Telugu original.
Confirming the news, Sajid says, “It was Salman who was very keen that I sign Sonakshi opposite him in Kick remake. I became a hundred percent sure of her after I saw her in Dabangg. She and Salman make a great pair. I am very happy to be working with Shatruji’s daughter. He has worked extensively for my banner. In fact I’ve a picture at home with Shatruji when he was shooting for our banner in Bhai Ho To Aisa. I was 6 at that time.”

Says Sajid emotionally, “This is the first time I’ve gone to someone’s house to sign an actor. Everyone comes to my office. But Sonakshi is Shatrughan Sinhaji’s daughter.”
Shatughan Sinha went on to add, “I told Sonakshi that I’ve worked with Sajid’s grandfather and father. Now it’s her turn to continue the tradition. God willing my sons too will work with Sajid.”
Interestingly and incidentally, this is Sonakshi’s third film with Salman. She is already doing the sequel to Dabangg with the star.

Releasing Today: Adi Nuvve, Saradaga Kasepu

It is Friday time and the release time. Among the whirlwind of big budget movies gearing up for release, here is a rather softer day with two releases which have a mild appeal to the masses. Both are of different flavors and will cater to a different set of audiences.

First in the list is ‘Saradaga Kasepu’ yet another creation from the original thinker Vamsi. He has added more fuel to his film by bringing in Allari Naresh and the stunningly seductive Madhurima in the lead. Srinivas Avasarala of ‘Ashta Chemma’ fame is also doing a key role in this.

Then, there is the breathtaking dancer Chaitanya of ‘Snehageetham’ fame arriving with his fresh release ‘Adhi Nuvve’. He is pairing up with the baby face beauty Aksha in this one and it is slated to be a youthful romantic entertainer. Here’s wishing the very best of success to both movies…

Screen Talk: Lesson For Pawan Kalyan

Power star Pawan Kalyan who has been the hottest favorite for the box office has always made his way through despite his offbeat body language. However, this time, things have not gone in his favor and he seems to have learnt his share of lessons.

Well, we are talking about his latest offering ‘Puli’ and the response has been quite humiliating. While the hardcore frontbenchers are still hovering around due to the ‘Pawan’ factor, it is heard that multiplexes have rejected it outright. Even the theatres which were taken in for extra shows have removed the film.

While the power star factor is just useful for reducing the losses, the analysts say that it will be a learning for Pawan in many ways – to promote his film personally, to select the script properly, to reduce his antics on the screen and above all, not to take his own sweet time to do a film.

Factionists Vs Police: Fight For ‘Rakta Charitra’ Audio @ Anantapur

While the tension is on as to how the reactions will be after the release of the film ‘Rakta Charitra’, a small trailer to that is already being seen in the Anantapur area. Apparently, this has to do with the audio release function and director Ram Gopal Varma’s intentions to conduct it there.

It is known that although RGV decided to release the audio in Anantapur, the police didn’t give permission. But still, there is scope for seeing the audio release only in Anantapur, due to the involvement of some factionists into the scene those wish to see the event happening in their place.

News is that the factionists want the audio release to happen in Anantapur but then the police are worried for obvious reasons and are opposing the proposal. However, it is heard that pressure is being applied on police from various corners to ensure that the release happens there only.

RGV from his end is said to be keen on Anantapur only and given his determined nature, he might get successful. If that happens, then it will be interesting to see the reaction of Obul Reddy’s men as it would literally be happening in their home place. It is known that Obul Reddy’s men gave a warning to RGV that they would put an end for him as Obul was projected in the movie in negative shades.

‘Brindavanam’ Music Review: Gives Kick

Rating: 3.5/5Music: Thaman
Lyrics: Anantha Sri Ram, Rama Jogayya Sastry, Krishna Chaitanya
Producer: Dil Raju
Director: Vamsee Paidipalli

‘Brindavanam’ music made by S Thaman gives good kick. Yes, he proved it once again after ‘Kick’. It’s indeed a challenge as well as a loveable thing for any young music director to score for Jr NTR. Thaman made his day and let us see how the songs are grooved all over.

Theme Of Hero…3.25/5
A funky number, this is a quickie which has got voices rendered by the team of Geetha Madhuri, Rita, Ramya and the words are penned by Anantha Sriram. Thaman has used a full length electric guitar in this one and the vocals pitched well with it. Overall, a good one…

Yuvakula…3/5
This is a fast paced song and as usual, the vocals are quite energetic with the artists Remo Fernandez, Ranjith, Revathi putting in high pitch. The pace of the song is quite fast and lyricist Krishna Chaitanya has woven the words that have good adrenaline. One can see traces of the English song ‘firestarter…’ with Thaman’s usage of drums and guitar. This is a youth song.

Eyi Raja…3.5/5
This can be called as the highlight song of the album and the duet has been rendered by the duo of Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal. A clear trace of Thaman’s ‘Kick’ can be experienced here and Anantha Sriram has given a deep touch to his words which fills the melody and it has got a peppy flavor to it. Overall, this is a good song which has got a rich feel to it.

Nijamena…3.25/5
This is a fast paced song with melodious beat. The renditions are luring and the orchestration is well schemed. It is a duet with Karthik, Suchitra lending their vocals and Thaman has shown his mettle on synthesizer and using the electronic trance beats to give a kick to the song. Yet again, Anantha Sriram gives a poetic touch to this peppy song and his lines sync well with the modern song. This is a dance song but worth listening.

Vachadura…3.5/5
A proper mass masala song and we can hear the proper Tamil teenmaar beat in this. A coincidence can be found with a typical Rajinikanth intro song. 'dola dol damaka dol balakrishnudochchde' is an interesting line which has come from lyricist Rama Jogayya Sastry. The vocals dominate this song as the veterans Koti, M M Keeravani and Ranjith join their voices. Thaman has given a elevated tune to this one and it could go well with the B and C center audience.

Oopirage…3.25/5
Ideally, this is meant to be an emotional and sad number but then Thaman has put high heels to it giving it a stylish tune. The pathos feel exists in it but still it is not losing listeners. Rahul Nambiar has given the right feel in his voice to contribute and Rama Jogayya Sastry gives a determined set of lyrics which expresses heartburn in an assertive manner.

Chinnadho Vypu…4/5
An interesting song, this starts with the golden old melody then continues with masala words ‘raa raa edoti cheseyraa..’. Thaman has given a routine beat but it demands huge attention from fans for sure on screen. The shrill voice of Sukhwinder Singh is supported well by Muralidhar and Savithri. The words from Anantha Sriram pump adrenaline into it and it is again a fast paced song with some naughty lyrics to it.

Mojjarey…3.5/5
A typical dance song with a folk flavor to it and the lines ‘Mojjare..mathi chedepe santhoshale..edaladire anandale..’ reminds us of big Bollywood hit ‘Jab We Met’ song ‘Mauja hi Mauja..’. With Baba Sehgal leading the vocals, the Punjabi feel was full and the duo of Ranjith, Nikita Nigam have given their contribution as required. Anantha Sriram gave decent wordings to it and Thaman’s signature style of music could be heard in flashes.

Overall, the entire album is filled with fast beats, tangy lyrics, peppy vocals. While the entire feel of the album is up and high, it would have balanced the listener’s mind if a proper slow song and a romantic melody was added to it. The heartbeat picks up at all times so the songs may go well with the youngsters but not so much for the family or the matured music lovers.
